We have strength in numbers – we are persuasive when we act collectively.
A lot of what Purley BID does to support businesses goes on behind the scenes. We have an incredibly successful track record of campaigns and lobbying to benefit and support the business community. This is a voice that is the envy of many local business districts who do not receive this representation and support. With the inevitable tough economic times ahead, it is crucial that we continue and increase the support to our businesses.
To ensure that Purley is seen as the preferred local destination we will be providing ongoing business support.
Here’s an overview of the campaigns we’ve delivered to give insight into the type of activity we will provide on your behalf following successful ballot for a second term.
- Successfully campaigned for Business Rates Reduction, achieving a saving of a third for businesses in Purley and nationally
- COVID-19 support: Set up group communication, weekly task force meetings for all businesses offering support as well as organise PPE and single-handedly lobbied Croydon Council regarding its interpretation of the confusing rules surrounding the Government Grants for small businesses.
- Successfully lobbied on behalf of businesses on issues like: anti-social behaviour, fly tipping and many others
- Employed a Business Engagement Manager for Purley
- Created more networking opportunities to maximise internal cross links between businesses and use our own local resources as a priority
- Engaged Landlords and Agents to improve property occupancy and understanding how Purley can attract appropriate new tenants to add retail diversity and widen available services and shops
- Drove towards evolution of the area into a small set of clear ‘identities’ to become what Purley is ‘famous for’ by providing a business support hub with information, encouragement and advice for businesses entering the area and our current colleagues
- Social Media campaigns to promote local businesses, events and special offers
Purley BID has a 100% success rate on lobbying, whether that be for Purley, Croydon or nationally
What we will do during the next 5 year term
- Much of the above and…
- Business rates campaign, the changes as a result of our lobbying in 2018 are only in place until 2021 and we need to ensure Purley has a voice when the time comes.
- Ongoing COVID-19 business support
- E-commerce support
- Lobbying and representation
- Cost reduction
- Increased business communication
